Can you do without the internet?

Yes, it’s true: I am going offline.

I’m going to cut my digital lifeline: no surfing, no email, no google, no facebook and no Twitter.

Why? Well, it’s part of the research project “virtual happiness“. In that project we try to define the different forms of internet usage and how they are related to certain aspects of happiness. Does being online make you happier?

And… do you have a choice? Can you live without the internet in the modern world?

Exciting questions and I will be telling you more about this experiment before I go offline :-)

Zover ik weet is dit nog steeds een NL site dus reactie in het nederlands.

Standaard ga ik 1 week per jaar offline (en nee, dat is niet de week dat ik op vakantie ben). Gewoon thuis zijn en toch niks met de computer doen. Ik kan je alvast vertellen dat er dan veel meer klusjes in- en rondom het huis gebeuren… ;)

Suc6 en het is een aanrader voor iedereen :tu:

Overigens is op vakantie gaan iets anders dan tijdens je werkzame leven offline gaan :-)

Tijdens je werkzame leven offline gaan….? Dus wel blijven werken maar niet meer online gaan ? Ik zou dan helemaal niet kunnen werken. Mijn werkzaamheden vinden 90% online plaats, voornamelijk per email. 20% van mijn online werk zou ik per telefoon af kunnen handelen, maar voor het resterende deel is geen alternatief. Jij zult het ook wel tegenkomen dat je voor bepaalde werkzaamheden geen offline variant hebt. Ben benieuwd hoe je het hebt opgelost !
Dus om je vraag te beantwoorden: What would I do if there was no internet ? I’d have to look for a different job, which I would regret tremendously
